VinePair published its 30 Best Tequilas for 2026 list last week. To compile it, spirits editor Aaron Goldfarb tasted and scored nearly 200 bottles. Sampling the plethora of tequilas currently on the market offered him an insider snapshot of where the category stands today. According to Aaron, one of the most noticeable trends taking over tequila today is brands veering from the spirit’s connotation as a drink for club and partygoers. Instead, producers are shifting toward artisanal messaging that targets spirits nerds and connoisseurs.
Today on the “VinePair Podcast,” Aaron joins Joanna and Zach to discuss this year’s best tequilas list. The three explore how brands are dialing in on more technical, nerdier marketing; why reposados had a particularly strong turnout this year; and why Aaron included a tequila that, by definition, is not tequila.
Zach is drinking: Sacred Shore Albariño
Joanna is drinking: Dry Stout from Forever Brewing
Aaron is drinking: House Martini at La Tête d’Or by Daniel
