The VinePair Podcast: Is Napa’s Cult Wine Bubble Close to Popping?

Even entry-level Napa Cabernets are pricey. But lately, a certain group of “cult Napa wineries” have been commanding premiums upwards of $1,000 per bottle. Mind you, these wineries don’t have the same legacy that some of France’s châteaus do, and their vineyard sourcing isn’t always quite transparent.

Nonetheless, the VinePair Pod trio argue that these wineries are here to stay. In their eyes, as long as the rich stay rich, they’ll want to spend their money on products others can’t afford. It’s all about the lifestyle and exclusivity, even if the wines themselves aren’t always that great.

On this episode of the “VinePair Podcast,” Adam, Joanna, and Zach respond to a listener’s question about recent and significant increases in the prices of several cult Napa Valley wines. Will these increases alienate even the wealthy who form the core audience for these wines, or is the prestige priceless for that set? Tune in for more.
