When buying wine at a restaurant or wine bar, it’s common knowledge that the best bang for your buck lies in the by-the-bottle list. However, for the curious consumer who may want to taste through multiple wines in one sitting, options to do so are dwindling.
With the exception of densely populated urban areas where people tend to be eager to discover new wines, by-the-glass business models may have limited viability in the years to come. While the value of a well-rounded wine bar depends, in part, on providing numerous wines, it can often be too expensive for businesses to offer such a wide selection. Hence why by-the-glass pours continue to cost a pretty penny. It doesn’t help that while guests marvel at high wine prices, they don’t seem to bat an eye when it comes to staggering cocktail prices.
