The VinePair Podcast: The Murky Etiquette of Bringing Bottles

With the holiday season upon us, one of the more controversial bits of drinks-related etiquette is once again coming to the forefront for many: Should guests bring a bottle (or more) to a gathering? And furthermore, should a visitor expect the host to open that bottle to share?

Some hosts admire the potluck mentality, but others might be inclined to have more control over what their guests are eating and drinking. After all, the host is technically running the show, and insisting that they open a gift immediately might be putting undo pressure on an already high-pressure situation. Unless the host directly calls on attendees to bring a few bottles, perhaps it’s best to come through with a bouquet of flowers or some brunch supplies for them to enjoy the next morning, whether it’s some fancy granola or Champagne for Mimosas.

On this episode of the “VinePair Podcast,” Adam, Joanna, and Zach share their own perspectives and experiences with this fraught scenario. Tune in for more.
